CoSy 2022
A round up of my experience at this years’ Costume Symposium
This 60s inspired hair probably makes me look like someone’s aunty.
What is CoSy
CoSy stands for Costume Symposium. It was born out of CoCoVid (Covid Costume Videos) which was an online substitute for the cancelled costume college events during 2020.
Costume college has continued as things open back up but alas it’s in in the USA and henceforth difficult to travel to. so CoSy is an online alternative making it more accessible and a great way to highlight smaller creators.
The videos stay up after the the event indefinitely ranging from the making processes of clothes to cooking to suitability in fashion to sewing as a neurodivergent person. The topics are varied and I encourage you to look at what the playlist has to offer.
What did I do
I made a video about the history of the salwar kameez and how they are made. The research rabbit hole for this was really fun and I found some great content. The garment is a lot older than I first realised. You can watch it here.
I was also involved on two panels. One on sourcing sustainable materials for projects and one about multilingualism and multiculturalism in the online costuming space.
I had a great time having so many creators to watch and really pushed myself making a video with so many eyes on it and being involved in two panels.
I hope you check out some of the videos and find something you enjoy
CoSy is planning to come back for 2023 so stay tuned.
