Ingenue essenceđź’• The power of cute

Ingénue essence. If you’ve been down the Kitchener rabbit hole you’ve seen this phrase tossed around.

Ingenue is typically described as small scale yin. A little circle. Being small, soft and rounded. If a rose is romantic, a lily ethereal than a daisy is ingenue.

Often ingenues are likened to a fantasy princess or mermaid, or are described as cute. Personally i’ve been typically likened to a doll. Ingenues may also be mistaken for being younger than they are.

An essence can go beyond visual and be a part of more intangible qualities such as speech or movements. Ingenues can easily be imagined smiling, having a posed ballet like posture or being carefree.

Current western beauty standards don’t really fit into the ingenue essence. Full cheeks and a cute look isn’t in vogue but it doesn’t matter. Go. back to the early 2000s and ingenue faced models were common.

So lets learn some ingenue styling tips.

Hair and makeup

Typical ingenue hair is soft, curled and low contrast. In a shorter medium length. The curled nature compliments the roundness of ingenue features and methods to make the hair soft compared to sleek and sculpted emphasise the carefree, lightweight nature of ingenues.

They have softer features that cast softer shadows than other types and these typical hair options compliment that.

Adding some small and delicate hair accessories like bows, ribbons or flowers are also perfect for this essence.

Makeup is typically blended and lightweight in look. More dramatic emphasis might work on the eyes to emphasise they’re size.

Clothing

Clothing is small and rounded. Think mini dresses and skirts, lightweight fabrics and pastel colours. Prints on the small side work best, ribbons, bows and ruffles. You don’t need to be limited to a 60s mini dress and ballet flats. Even in a shirt and jeans, an ingenue version could be light blue jeans and a shirt in a pastel shade or small floral print.

Smaller accessories will suit the smaller ingenue frame think small novelty bags, delicate jewellery and tiny heels.

What about my other essences/ essence+ imageID?

So people are usually a mixture of essences. I personally have a soft natural kibbe ID so I have this more yang and athletic looking structure to my body. It might seen anachronistic trying to mix an essence or image ID that’s known for being broad and blunt with one being small and round, but I believe you can blend any of the essences together.

An example here is me in this vintage dress i’ve altered. It’s natural in silhouette with the low neckline and relaxed, sleeves and drape skirt. The dress is also made of a midnight cotton. The fabric is something that isn’t talked about all too often but can sway the impression of a garment.

My hair is also asymmetrical in parting and loose and layered, giving a wild and free feeling and my necklace is fairly large scale so it matches my bone structure. The ballet shoes by design are square at the bottom for pointe work, so although not practical for daily casual wear it is natural in shape.

The ingenue element is the pastel pink colour of the dress, the rounded neckline the heart and pastel colour of the necklace and my ballet shoes.

I like to think of this aspect of my style as a ballerina. Ballerina style is usually seen as quite sweet, big fluffy tutus and dainty steps, very ingenue. However it’s a very athletic craft, ballet takes a lot of strength and it’s not uncommon for ballerinas to have a muscular figure. This trope to me is the perfect mix of natural and ingenue.

This dress is natural in structure with its draped quality and open neckline. The colour is quite ingenue. The fabric weight would be ethereal but with a lining it adds weight to the fabric, making it more yang and closer to natural.

My hair accessories are small little flowers and my jewellery quite pastel in colour. My hair is soft and wavy, it’s length goes a bit ethereal.

I think a good start is to choose items that match your Kibbe image ID or dominant Kitchener essence in design and structure to match your body. Then look at the colour, fabric weight and texture and pattern/embellishment or lack there of.

The dominant essence/image ID is like the cake the main structure, they can be small or large or round or cupcake shape or tiered etc. The less dominant essences are like the icing and decoration that dictates the design of the cake, it can be cute and pink and rococo looking or sleek and minimal and geometric etc.

Go decorate your own unique cake💕🎂

That’s the brief overview of ingenue essence, use these guidelines as a springboard to help create your own unique style

and with that go have fun with fashion
